Summer Studios at FCM

Summer Studios is a unique summer program for children at the Florence County Museum. Each week-long session begins on Monday, focusing on a specific theme. The week ends each Friday with an exhibit of student work along with a reception for family and friends. Registration is now open for all 2019 Summer Studios sessions. How Does Your Garden Grow?
Ages 5-10

Start your summer by growing with us! Using the museum’s courtyard, Students will learn how to find art in nature by creating a sustainable garden, identifying regional plants, following a plant from seed to harvest and making garden-inspired works of art.

Comic Creations
Ages 8-12

Creating your own comic story can be so much fun! Students will develop comic book characters using two and three-dimensional art, learn the elements of a comic story, and write and draw a comic page or strip. Students will draw, paint, ink and sculpt their way to an awesome Comic Creation!

Dive in to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) with this multidisciplinary camp. Students will participate in exciting hands-on activities that blend subject areas with unique results. Activities include engineered sculptures, participating in science experiments with an artistic outcome, and applying math and technology to plan and create works of art.

Crazy for Clay
Ages 8-12

Get your hands dirty working with clay! Students will learn the start-to-finish process of making ceramic art, create unique works of three-dimensional art, explore surface design techniques, and glaze bisque-fired clay.

Mixed Media Mash-up
Ages 5-10

Art is so much more than just paint on paper! Using a variety of art materials (some quite unusual), students will learn to combine media to create contemporary, vibrant works of art inspired by artworks found in the museum’s galleries.

Dye, Print, Weave
Ages 8-12
Monday-Friday, 9 am-12 pm

Create using tie-dye, screen prints, weaving and more! Students will dive in to textile art by exploring cloth-making methods, dyeing techniques, and surface design. Each student will tie-dye and print their own t-shirt, explore the science of creating dyes, and practice traditional ways to make textiles into works of art.
