Reflecting Justice

Opening Date: February 4, 2025
Location: Education Gallery

How do you define the term justice? What shapes your definition and why? Reflect upon William H. Johnson’s Fighters for Freedom in this interactive gallery. Engage with biographies of local activists, during pivotal moments in the nation’s struggle for civil rights. Consider your own personal history and picture yourself as a stakeholder.

Reflecting Justice is a companion exhibit to Fighters for Freedom William H. Johnson: Picturing Justice highlighting local civil rights activists in the history of the Pee Dee. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves inside the mind of William H. Johnson to reflect on what local justice looked like during the mid-20th century and what it might look today in our community. Visitors are encouraged to submit written examples of present-day figures who are inspiring the fight for freedom and to consider how they can aid their local community in attaining justice and equality for all.

Reflecting Justice is organized by the Florence County Museum.

Generous support for this project is provided by Art Bridges. Additional exhibition support provided by Trustees of the Florence Museum, Florence County Museum Foundation, Eastern Carolina Community Foundation, Florence County Museum Civil Justice Fund

This exhibition will be open to the public February 4, 2025 through August 10, 2025 in the Education Gallery.
