Legend: Francis Marion in the Pee Dee
In the early decades of American Independence, poets and painters turned General Francis Marion into a mythical figure; part fact, part folk legend. Their efforts were so effective that the cultural impact of their words and images lingers today.
Using historical artworks on loan from major national art institutions along with new archaeological discoveries, LEGEND explores the truths and the myth of General Francis Marion in conjunction with South Carolina’s recognition of the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War.
LEGEND will be on display in the Special Exhibit Gallery from February 14 through August 13, 2023.
