Ginny Newell Lecture on Conservation

Ginny Newell, a graduate of Davidson College, was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. She received her art conservation certificates from Academy of Professional Art and Science in Sonoma, California and the Amsterdam Academy for Restoration in Paper in Amsterdam, Holland.

Mrs. Newell moved to Columbia, SC in 1978 to work for George and Chee Chee Walker at G. Walker Gallery. She opened ReNewell, Inc. Fine Art Conservation in 1983 and continues to provide conservation services restoring oil paintings and works of art on paper to private collectors and museums mainly on the eastern seaboard.

Occasionally, Ginny teaches refresher courses to practicing conservators at the Campbell Center in Mount Carroll, Illinois. She is an active participant in the South Eastern Regional Conservation Association and the American Institute of Conservation.

She serves on the Columbia Museum of Art Board of Directors, the Davidson College Board of Visitors, and the Thomas Cooper Society University of South Carolina Board of Directors.

She is married to Bob Wilkins, a realtor with Coldwell Banker. She has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, is an active member of the Greater Piedmont Chapter of the Explorers Club, and is preparing to walk 100 miles of the Santiago de Compostela, the pilgrimage route across northern Spain.
