The talk will be given by Dr. Steven D. Smith\, author of Francis Marion and the Snow’s Island Community: Myth History\, and Archaeology. Smith is a research professor at the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology\, and has conducted extensive studies of battlefields and camp sites associated with Marion’s Revolutionary War military campaigns. \nMarion’s fame is inextricable from his activities in the Pee Dee\, and Smith has gone further than all previous researchers to bring a new and better understanding of the character\, strategies\, and relationships which held together the partisan forces of the Pee Dee during a desperate turning point in the battle for American Independence.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
