Enjoy an evening of creative hands-on activities\, music\, food\, costume contest and more! Tickets are $10 per child or $40 per family. Accompanying adults attend free. Tickets can be purchased at the Florence County Museum or through our website: flocomuseum.org/imagination. \nAll proceeds support educational programming at the Florence County Museum. \nThe inspiration for this year’s Imagination Ball is William H. Johnson’s painting Aunt Alice currently on view in the Focus Gallery at the Florence County Museum. On loan from James E. Lewis Museum of Morgan State University\, the subject matter features William H. Johnson’s mother. Alice Johnson was affectionately known in the community as Aunt Alice. In 1944\, Alice was recognized in a public ceremony for her 25 years of service as matron of the local YMCA. \nPresented by: Florence County Museum Foundation. \nFor more information\, visit He received his BFA in painting and sculpture from Boston University\, and his MFA in painting from Indiana University. His work has been exhibited in New York\, London\, Berlin\, and Greece. \nIn his recent paintings\, Kameen investigates how the search for meaning in everyday moments becomes distorted as internal thoughts are projected onto inanimate surroundings\, blurring the line between reality and memory. \n“With their strong composition\, intense interplay of colors\, and theatrical effects of light and shadow\, the paintings’ characters\, objects\, and events take on a dream-like presence that is both familiar and elusive\,” says FCM curator Stephen Motte. \nJoin us for an opening reception on the evening of Thursday\, September 28\, as we explore the visionary work of one of South Carolina’s most talented contemporary artists. Openings: Joseph Kameen will be on view in the Special Exhibit Gallery from September 5\, 2023 through January 28\, 2024.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Reflect. Discover. Engage. \nOn average\, museumgoers tend to view objects for under 30 seconds. Seven seconds is the most time some viewers will spend looking at a painting. How long does 30 seconds feel? What about 5 minutes? How does the time we spend looking at something\, influence our observation? \nJoin the Florence County Museum on Saturday\, April 15\, 2023\, for a day of curated strategies to help you experience art more deeply. Stop by the front desk for your Slow Art Day Guide. \nNo fee or registration required! \nThree opportunities to reflect on the day include: \n\nIndividually\, through your printed Slow Art Day Guide\nWith your own learning community. Invite friends and family to join you. Discuss your observations with them after your visit.\nJoin Museum staff and others for facilitated conversation in the multipurpose room at 2:00 pm. If you chose this option\, make plans to arrive at the museum at 1:00 pm so you have plenty of time to view the selected art beforehand.\n\n  \n\nAbout Slow Art Day:\nFounded in 2010\, Slow Art Day is a global event (more than 1\,500 museums and galleries have participated) with a simple mission: help more people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art. \nVisit slowartday.com. \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
