Our scavenger hunts provide visitors with a creative\, non-linear way to explore and learn within the gallery. The museum docent will share fun contextual facts about select objects you discover. This experience is great for visitors of all ages. Registration is required via the link on this page. \nThe Pee Dee History Gallery is the largest gallery space in the facility\, comprising 3\,300 sq. ft. of exhibit space. This permanent collections gallery occupies the entire second floor\, east wing of the building. Artifacts on display are supported by historical images and narrative interpretation\, providing a comprehensive introduction to the Pee Dee region from prehistory to the present. \nHighlights in this gallery include Cretaceous period reptile material\, an 18 ft. tall Ancient Bald Cypress trunk sub-fossil\, Native American and Colonial period artifacts\, Civil War artifacts from the Florence Stockade prison camp and Confederate Naval Yard at Mars Bluff\, artifacts related to life and career of former FBI agent and Florence County native\, Melvin Purvis and fragments of the MK-6 atomic bomb which was accidentally dropped on the Mars Bluff community in 1958.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20px”][nectar_btn size=”large” open_new_tab=”true” button_style=”regular” button_color_2=”Accent-Color” icon_family=”none” text=”Register for Scavenger Hunt” url=”https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sunday-tours-pee-history-gallery-tickets-1323580277239″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”padding-2-percent” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”top” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” column_padding_type=”default” gradient_type=”default”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]Upcoming Second Sunday Tours:\n12/14/25 – Unforgettable: The Civil Rights Photography of Cecil Williams\n1/11/26 – Unforgettable: The Civil Rights Photography of Cecil Williams[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
