Registration is required via the link below. \nCecil Williams (b. 1937) is a veteran photojournalist and native of Orangeburg SC\, where he owns and operates the South Carolina Civil Rights Museum. Williams documented many significant stories and events during the civil rights era including the prosecution of Briggs v. Elliott (early 1950s) and the Orangeburg Massacre (1968). At age 14\, Williams became the youngest contributing photographer to JET magazine. \nThis exhibition will feature a selection of Williams’ photographs along with interpretation for each; emphasizing Williams’ work while more broadly addressing the role of photography in Civil Rights. This will be the first exhibition of photography offered at Florence County Museum\, as well as the first exhibition to emphasize civil rights to be presented in the Special Exhibit Gallery.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”20px”][nectar_btn size=”large” open_new_tab=”true” button_style=”regular” button_color_2=”Accent-Color” icon_family=”none” text=”Register for Tour!” url=”https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sunday-tour-unforgettable-the-civil-rights-photography-of-cecil-williams-tickets-1979887937117″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overflow=”visible” disable_element=”yes” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none” gradient_type=”default” shape_type=””][vc_column column_padding=”padding-2-percent” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”top” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” column_padding_type=”default” gradient_type=”default”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]Upcoming Sunday Tours:\n02/08/26 –\n03/08/26 –\n04/12/26 –\n05/10/26 –\n06/14/25 -[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Curator of History\, Cherish Thomas\, will provide an in-depth presentation on the families\, businesses\, and cultures featured in the Lasting Presence exhibition. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]\nPresentation Topic\nStarting in the late 1800s\, immigrants from Germany\, Syria\, and Greece began arriving in the city of Florence. Many were entrepreneurs who sought to build new lives in America as merchants\, candy manufacturers\, and restaurateurs. As their businesses grew in popularity and success\, names that were once foreign to native Florentines\, such as Baroody\, Saleeby\, Kuker\, Cohen\, and Palles\, gradually became commonplace throughout the city. Descendants of these and other immigrant families can still be found in and around Florence today. Visitors are invited to learn the various local immigrant stories & reflect on how their contributions shaped Florence as we know it today. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]When\nThursday\, May 14\, 2026\nRefreshments will be served starting at 5:00 pm.\nThe lecture will be from 5:45 – 6:30 pm. \nWhere\nFlorence County Museum \nCost\nAdmission is free.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Throughout the presentation\, he will share different fossils collected in the Lowcountry for the audience to get an up-close look at the Lowcountry’s prehistoric past! The presentation typically lasts an hour and 15 minutes\, and guests may ask questions at the conclusion of the talk. \nGuests may bring fossils and questions!
