Collins and his team changed history when they found evidence of people living in Central Texas 20\,000 years ago. The film is more than a simple tale of discoveries at the Gault Archaeological Site. It illustrates the power of an individual to make a difference and what people can accomplish when they come together for the greater good.[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”40px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Curator of History\, Cherish Thomas\, will provide an in-depth presentation on the families\, businesses\, and cultures featured in the Lasting Presence exhibition. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]\nLecture Topic\nStarting in the late 1800s\, immigrants from Germany\, Syria\, and Greece began arriving in the city of Florence. Many were entrepreneurs who sought to build new lives in America as merchants\, candy manufacturers\, and restaurateurs. As their businesses grew in popularity and success\, names that were once foreign to native Florentines\, such as Baroody\, Saleeby\, Kuker\, Cohen\, and Palles\, gradually became commonplace throughout the city. Descendants of these and other immigrant families can still be found in and around Florence today. Visitors are invited to learn the various local immigrant stories & reflect on how their contributions shaped Florence as we know it today. \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/2″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]When\nThursday\, May 14\, 2026\nRefreshments will be served starting at 5:00 pm.\nThe lecture will be from 5:45 – 6:30 pm. \nWhere\nFlorence County Museum \nCost\nAdmission is free.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Our Prehistoric Palmetto State is an engaging presentation on the process of fossilization and the diverse animals present in South Carolina’s fossil record. Paleontologist Ashby Gale will construct explanations for why fossil deposits are located where they are\, interpret past data from the fossil record to analyze historical climate patterns\, and explore the driving mechanisms of fossilization processes. Throughout the presentation\, he will share different fossils collected in the Lowcountry for the audience to get an up-close look at the Lowcountry’s prehistoric past! The presentation typically lasts an hour and 15 minutes\, and guests may ask questions at the conclusion of the talk. \nGuests may bring fossils and questions!
