Your membership plays an important role in the life of the Florence County Museum. Your tax-deductible contribution enables the museum to provide changing exhibits, tours, educational programming and events.
After Hours at the Museum is our member exclusive after hours event with refreshments that takes place at the museum on the 3rd Friday of each month between the hours of 5:00pm – 8:00 pm. Invitation to this event is made available to all donor level and higher members. Members in attendance will be informed of upcoming exhibitions, recent collections acquisitions, upcoming educational programming, & more. December 18, 2015 – Holiday Party
The FCM Annual Awards Celebration: an evening of recognition of our members and other outstanding individuals whose contributions have help to further the museum’s mission. This event is open to all members and will take place on Tuesday, October 25, 2015 between the hours of 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the museum.
An Evening with the Director: a cocktail party organized by the Director is made available to members who support the museum at the patron level or higher. This year’s annual event will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 between the hours of 8:00pm – 9:30pm at the museum.
Muse Food and Wine Tasting: an evening of gourmet food and fine wines inspired by the museum’s collection is made available to members at the sustainer level or higher. This year’s annual event will take place on Thursday, June 25, 2015 between the hours of 7:00pm – 9:00pm at the museum.
Lunch and Learn: a lecture lunch and lively discussion about the museum’s collections with the Curator of Interpretation & Collections is made available to members at the patron level or higher. This year’s annual event will take place on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 between the hours of 12:30pm – 1:30pm at the museum.
In September of 2008, Florence County Council established the Florence County Museum Board. This board was established in response to a 3:1 match of funding made available through the State of South Carolina. The Florence County Museum Board is made up of 13 members, nine of which are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of County Council (one member from each County District), two appointed by the Florence Museum Board of Trustees, and two appointed by the Community Museum Society of Lake City, SC.
Thanks to the generosity of the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation and Florence County, allocated funding was secured for the purpose of constructing a Florence County Museum facility.
In 2009, pursuant to both the missions of the Florence Museum Board of Trustees and the Florence County Museum, Florence County contracted with Watson Tate Savory along with associate design architect, Cooper Robertson and Partners to design a building for the corner of Cheves and Dargan Streets. The Florence County Museum facility is designed to address the past, present, and future of Florence County; its unique relationships with the Pee Dee region, the state of South Carolina, and the world.
The Florence County Museum, in collaboration with the Florence Museum Board of Trustees, opened to the public on October 12, 2014 at 111 West Cheves Street.
The mission of the Florence County Museum is to provide a dynamic sanctuary for the preservation, interpretation and exhibition of objects of scientific, historic, and artistic significance that are unique or of special interest to the people of Florence County and the Pee Dee region of South Carolina.
The vision of the Florence County Museum is to stimulate imaginations and create experiences that transform lives by broadening people’s perspectives, attitudes, and knowledge of themselves and the world.
